The Language of AI: E19 - Giving feedback with AI
Back to the Basics
Fellow Educators,
I have been looking over all of the content that I have been producing and sharing with you and I have noticed that the majority of what really seems to do well is the “practical how to content” walking you through how you could use AI for various tasks.
So with that, I am going back to the basics and doing what you are asking for.
These prompts are starting points for you, take them and modify them as needed
Giving Feedback using AI
Prompt:
“I need some feedback for my student based on what I have graded for them so far. I will add the rubric, assessment and student work for you to see. I have removed anything identifiable about them but kept in their work, my graded assessment, the rubric and so on. What I need from you is some constructive feedback based on my assessment of the student that has some positive, areas for improvement and next steps. “
…… now that is a real prompt that I have used as a test to see if I can generate some feedback for a student. I made sure to remove anything that was identifiable to them as well as unique.
Then I did what I could to give context with the rubric, assignment and my instructions in addition to my actually assessment of the student.
The Goal was NOT to have the AI grade the assessment
BUT to have it take what I have already done with my evaluation/comments to then give me a variety of other ways to communicate what I have already done.
This process is not new but is a way for those who get stuck with saying the same old things, comments and feedback a new way to use words that were derived from your own assessment of the student already.
Where do we go from here?
I am going to be clear that this newsletter takes time and effort. The value to me is the impact that I assume is happening and interest that it generates.
I get that important feedback loop from the interactions you have with the content and any feedback you give so please to share your thoughts and emails. I really appreciate the comments and questions back because those keep me motivated to continue.
Thanks for taking the time to be part of a positive change in education compared to simply burying your heads in the sand.
Cheers,
Matthew
